Yorkshire's lush rolling hills and verdant pastures produce the finest milk and cream in the country. This is the foundation of a renown cheesemaking industy that encompasses Wensleydale, Judy Bell's pioneering creamery Shepherd's Purse and smaller producers like the Calerdale Cheese Company - the UK's smallest dairy.
Sue Gaudie, a transplanted Cornish native married to a Yorkshire organic dairy farmer makes the most luscious Yorkshire clotted cream from Stamfrey Farm. The wonderful Longley Farm supplies yoghurt, butter and creme fraiche from their herd of Jersey cows in Holmfirth.
Eggs - they are an interesting subject on their own - Fodder sells free range hens eggs all year round and then duck and quail eggs when they are in season. It is interesting to note that hen eggs are about 50p cheaper in Fodder than in local supermarkets. And fresher too. Ian Taylor comes from his farm 9 miles away twice a week to keep supplies as fresh and tasty as possible.
